Inspired by Julia de Burgos poem “Grifería en mi pelo, cafrería en mi labios” (Frizz on my hair, uncouthness on my lips). Her afro represents our African roots and being Afrocaribeñas (afrocaribbean)… her speech bubble our outspoken nature. The background is an ode to our homeland, its beaches and its easy, tropical Island vibes. Since Puerto Rico is known for its surfing, it made sense to draw from that when coming up with the concrete waves on which she rides/surfs.
